MBD is an approved site for STUDENTS on HANDSHAKE! Handshake is the Central Hub for Vocational School, Colleges and University Students to find Co-op’s and Internships for credits! POL: Pick of The Litter
A POL reservation is a TOP FOUR “Pick Of the Litter”. and an Optional Add-On. Puppy picks #5 -Last are regular puppy pick spots & only require the $500 deposit to reserve. POL premiums Do Not Come off the Balance. Rather, a POL premium is in addition to the regular puppy prices listed above. The premium is for having a top pick in the litter
and for skipping the line. The average litter size is 7-8 puppies
Top 4 Picks of the Litter aka POL’s
1stPOL is “The Home Run”
“The Home Run” is 1st POL (1st pick of the litter), when available, Is an additional $2500. This spot allows you to choose from ALL of the puppies! This is a great spot to have if you have specific preferences or needs for gender, markings, colors and personality.
2ndPOL is “The Power Hitter”
“The Power Hitter” is 2nd Pick of the Litter. When available, is an additional $2000. This is usually the 1st male or 1st female pick but it doesn’t have to be. This is an also great spot to have if you have 2 or more specific preferences. This spot guarantees the 2nd pick in on the list of your choosing.
3rdPOL is “On Deck”
“On Deck” is 3rd Pick of the Litter. When available, is an additional $1500. This spot guarantees the 3rd pick in on the list of your choosing and is a great spot if you like multiple colors but want a specific gender.
4thPOL is “The Fenway Special”
“The Fenway Special” is the 4th Pick of the Litter. When available, is an additional $1000. This spot guarantees the 4th pick in a specific litter of your choice! It’s very rare to have a litter of less than 4-6 puppies but it does happen. If either color or gender are important factors to you, I recommend reserving 4th POL.
Please Note: The POL premiums are optional and in addition to the price of your puppy. POL Premiums do not come off the balance on puppy pick/gotcha day. The premium is for having a guaranteed specific 1st-4th Puppy Pick on a specific list. The initial $500 deposit DOES come off the balance which is due on gotcha day.
How Do Puppy Picks Work?
By Appointment, in the order of the List, when puppies turn 8 weeks old! Each list is posted below the litter photos on the individual litter pages & updated in REAL TIME. You may choose an In-Person or Virtual Puppy Pick Day! All Puppies will be AWESOME, even the last pick & you get to see EVERYTHING via our exclusive 24/7 Live Puppy Cameras!
What does my Bernedoodle Puppy Come With?
Included:A BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY, WELL SOCIALIZED BerneDoodle Puppy With a Puppy Contract including a 2 year Guarantee on genetic diseases and hip dysplasia, Vaccines up to 8 weeks old, “Puppy Culture” Socialization, A Well-Puppy Certificate issued by a Licensed Veterinarian when pups are ~6 weeks old, Volhard Puppy Temperament Testing (occurs at 7 weeks old) and Puppy Prep Information.
Every puppy will have a wonderful temperament which means, puppy picks all come down to Personal Preferences! Additionally, you’ll have the option to enroll your puppy in our Al La Carte Puppy Play, Board & Train Program at MBD University, led by a Service Dog Trainer & specifically designed for MBD puppies 8-26 weeks old. We also offer White Glove Puppy Delivery by an MBD Employee, Grooming while at Training & Special Requests for an additional fee.
If puppy is enrolled in Training, all vaccines are kept up to date throughout training PLUS you’ll have a one hour, 1:1 training session with our trainer at the conclusion of training. We will also have a Puppy Pick Day information session!
Who Might Consider a POL, if every puppy will have an Amazing Temperament?
You may want to Consider Reserving 1st-2nd POL if you have 2 or more preferences, such as gender AND Color. Consider reserving 3rd or 4th POL if you have one specific preference. For example, for a color OR a gender preference. For example, if you have a strong preference for a Male/Female and also a traditional Tri Colored Bernedoodle, you might want to consider reserving a POL. Please see the POL Pricing below.
ENTERTAINMENT for everyone, as you witness the milestones and laugh at their BLOOPERS (and ours!) You’ll see everything from the Milk Mustaches, Puppy Snuggle Time, their Daily Early Neurological Stimulation Exercises and.. you will surely even get to see a Poop Party or a few…Snuggle up and watch the days’ puppy videos! Did You Know?
When puppies are born, they can’t see or hear at all? Puppies open their eyes at about 2 weeks old and begin to hear at 3 weeks! That’s when the fun begins! Crawling, eating “Puppy Smoothies”, then come the little barks… before you know it, they’re running and playing! They grow from the size of a hamster to a Full Size PUPPY in just 8 weeks and you get to see it all!

Happy, Healthy Dogs Have Happy Healthy Puppies!
Health Testing
Parents Health and Temperament: At MBD, we have all of our parent dogs tested for over 200 heritable diseases and they all must pass their OFA or Pennhip evaluations. With our Robust Health Testing Program, we provide genetically sound puppies with amazing temperaments. We don’t even do this with people! This is very important, for dogs, with all of the inbreeding leading to cancer amongst many pure bred dogs.
Approximately 30% of intended MBD dogs parent don’t pass our strict health requirements or mom has complications and she needs to retire early, sometimes after just one litter (or none). This increases costs. However, it is what’s best for the dogs and what gives you a healthier, happier puppy!
Professional vs Amateur
MBD is a legitimate LLC with all the taxes and responsibilities that come with owning a business. MBD is a woman owned business and a learning facility for students Co-ops! We train all of our employees from the ground up and there is a lot to learn in becoming exceptional doggie doula’s, professional Puppy Raisers, postpartum mom care givers and dog/puppy enrichment providers.
MBD is a Professional Dog Breeding and Training Business which means I only breed our own dogs, in Ashby, MA and we sell our hand raised puppies directly to our pre screened customers. We meet 95% of our customers on puppy pick day, in person! Occasionally we have a zoom Puppy Pick, if the customer is unable to come to MBD on puppy pick day! If you can’t come pick your puppy up, don’t worry, We can usually deliver directly to you, from our door to yours and with our own MBD employees. Sometimes, it’ll be me, the owner, making these very special deliveries!

Backyard, Hobby and
Commercial Breeders rarely offer guarantees, rarely do any testing, or they find loopholes such as naming several females with the same name. Some breeders will even buy puppies from the puppy mills for ~$500/puppy and resell them to naive customers as “home raised”, for a lot more…less overhead, if any but worse…unhealthy and/or unsocialized puppies.
24/7 Puppy Cameras
Transparency. We feel Transparency is IMPORTANT! One reason for our 24/7 Puppy Cameras! So you know, without a doubt, Adult and Puppies are all treated like babies! We LOVE these furbabies ❤️ Quality care means Quality Individuals to take care of them. More Puppy And Adult Dog Enrichment activities and a Trainer on-site. Plus, ALL the insurances, payroll, benefits, proper veterinary care, higher utility bills, More Taxes, Maintenance, etc.
With commercial breeders, Very little care or attention go their dogs and puppies, they have far less overhead with far fewer employees, if any. There’s usually no health guarantee and puppies are often sick soon after coming home. For many, the health issues continue for years… or forever. Sadly. While there are some factors that allow other breeders to sell their doodle puppies for a lot less, we choose to breed in an ethical manner, by always putting our dogs and puppies FIRST!
Nature
CHOOSING HEALTHY PARENTS, IN MIND & BODY. The cornerstone of every responsible breeding program. I can’t stress this enough.
It’s difficult to find healthy, pure bred Poodles with the right color genetics AND that aren’t high strung. Bernese Mountain Dogs & Golden Retrievers, along with many breeds, went through decades poor breeding practices, all for the Show Ring. This led to widespread, early onset cancer. Heartbreaking. The show judges the dogs based conformation (or the look) of the dog, not their health, unfortunately. As a result, many pure bred breeders resorted to inbreeding & line breeding, all for the “perfect” looking show dog. This has wreaked havoc on the health of many pure bred dogs & is the primary reason why so many pure bred dogs have cancer or bad hips at such a young age. It is very difficult to find professional breeders who don’t participate in these negative breeding practices but they do exist!
When we do find healthy parent dogs, they are much more expensive, with full breeding rights. As an ethical breeder, it’s important to find the right breeders, often mentors, for your parent dogs.
Temperament
Diversity is KEY! It’s important to make the right choices when it comes to temperament because puppies DO INHERIT temperament traits! We wouldn’t want to take any chances in that department so I personally handle this area.
Overall, these costs are WORTH IT. It’s important to breed and buy responsibility
MANY breeders lower costs by over breeding. It’s not unusual for breeders to breed one dog NINE TIMES prior to retirement and/or breeding regardless of any complications. Another example of poor breeding practices. This is stressful and stress hormones DO impact the puppies.
Nurture
Not at MBD. Mom dogs are limited to 4 litters, if everything goes well every time. If one of our mom’s has a complication, we won’t hesitate to seek immediate professional assistance and she will retire if it’s in her best interest. We have a state of the art PUPPY NURSERY and a Doggie Daycare for our adolescent and parent dogs! We love every one our dogs & puppies very much.
